• World Extreme Cagefighting announced its debut in Texas is set for March 1 in Corpus Christi, featuring Carlos Condit vs. Brock Larson for the weltwerweight title and Mike Thomas Brown vs. Leonard Garcia for the featherweight title.
• The long-delayed grudge match between Matt Serra and
Matt
Hughes appears on for a May 23 UFC card in Las Vegas, according
to MMAWeekly.com.
• Former UFC heavyweight Jeff Monson has a warrant out for his arrest in Washington state. He is charged with malicious mischief for spray painting an anarchy symbol on the state capital, an act that was photographed and published by ESPN The Magazine alongside a profile on Monson and his political beliefs. The charge carries a maximum $20,000 fine or up to 10 years in prison, but Monson told Sherdog.com that he believes he will be released on his own recognizance after he give himself up to authorities through his lawyer. Monson said he will fight the charges and does not expect to serve jail time. ESPN The Magazine's Ryan Hockensmith reported this week that Monson is set to face Roger Gracie in March for the Sengoku promotion.
• Mark Munoz, the NCAA All-American wrestler who competed twice in World Extreme Cagefighting, faces a tough challenge in his UFC debut. He's set to meet Matt Hamill at UFC 96 on March 7, according to several reports.
• Ultimate Fighter 8 light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader has signed to debut against Carmelo Marrero in April, according to MMAWeekly.com, likely on the same April 1 card that fellow TUF8 champ Efrain Escudero is expected to fight against Jeremy Stephens. The event is expected to be a Spike TV lead-in to the premiere of season nine of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
• The UFC confirmed this week that UFC 95 on Feb. 21 in London will be a Spike TV broadcast, not a pay-per-view. The event is headlined by Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Stevenson.
• The M-1 Challenge concluded its inaugural international team challenge series just outisde Amsterdam, Holland, on Jan. 10, with the Red Devil team of Russia defeating Team Holland four fights to one. Holland's sole victor was at middleweight, where Jason Jones defeated Dmitry Samoilov. The series has played out on television through a new series on HD Net, and a portion of the event streamed live on Sherdog.com. M-1 Challenge begins its 2009 season on Feb. 21 in Seattle, Washington.
• Word came this week that Mark Hominick was forced to pull out of the Affliction "Day of Reckoning" card on Jan. 24 due to pnuemonia. He will be replaced by Bao Quach against LC Davis.
