Gautier vs. Vines

The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Saturday returns to pay-per-view with UFC 320, which features a surprising amount of depth on the undercard at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Middleweights take the featured spots. Hot prospect Ateba Abega Gautier looks to maintain his place as one of the division’s top talents against late replacement Treston Vines, and Edmen Shahbazyan tries to continue establishing his potential career renaissance against standout grappler Andre Muniz. However, the most intriguing preliminary bout might involve the sophomore UFC effort of Patrick “Patchy” Mix. The former Bellator MMA bantamweight champion disappointed greatly in his Octagon debut earlier this year and does not get an easy chance to rebound against standout newcomer Jakub Wiklacz. There are some other well-matched affairs, too, with a featherweight clash between Daniel Santos and Joo Sang Yoo—each coming off strong performances—offering some particular potential for violence.

Now to the preview for the UFC 320 “Ankalaev vs. Pereira” prelims:

BETTING ODDS: N/A

Buzz is rightfully building around Gautier, who has had a breakout 2025 campaign to become one of the UFC’s top middleweight prospects. Originally from Cameroon and training out of England, Gautier looked solid in his Dana White’s Contender Series win a year ago. He got outwrestled for much of his fight but landed with some crushing power during the moments that the bout was on the feet, eventually scoring a second-round knockout. Gautier only built on that performance in his first two UFC fights. He took care of Jose Medina and Robert Valentin within a few minutes, showing much more poise and patience than his lack of experience would suggest, all while once again appearing to land with an elite level of power. There’s still the worry of what happens when Gautier encounters an opponent who doesn’t eventually fold under the weight of that power, but that’s more of a long-term concern, particularly since he draws a late replacement in Vines here. Vines has looked fine enough on the regional scene, but his steps up in competition haven’t gone well thus far, as he usually gets caught off-guard and knocked out within a round. It’s hard not to see the same happening in this one. The pick is Gautier via first-round knockout.
