Smashes: Four Men Enter, One Man Leaves

Jay PettrySep 29, 2025

Combat sports never sleep. Around the world, people are duking it out for money or personal glory in an organized, hopefully regulated manner right now. Some leagues are more equal than others, leading us to some bonkers fight results and bizarre decisions. Whether watching the news of our various sports, the wild happenings or memorable highlights, there is always something for someone. We want to give you the latter of those three in this series titled “Sherdog Smashes.” What is it? A feast of carnage worthy of those seated on the “Just Bleed” throne.

Those of us that cannot get enough gladly located a healthy diet of knockouts around the fighting world, and we bring you several across the disciplines of MMA, mixed combat and “boxing.” Try it out.

Life, uh, finds a way.

Ideally this platform is for events that may have gone unnoticed by the lion’s share of MMA fans, and a spinoff league of a major organization has plenty of eyeballs on it. The stoppage, a debilitating stomp kick from Mohammad Alaqraa to Ayman Galal, made it worth posting again for those in the back. Somewhere in the world, Modestas Bukauskas is feeling phantom pain in his knee, a strike so gnarly we briefly considered classifying the stoppage as a KO rather than a TKO.

For a variety of reasons including the figurehead that runs the organization, we prefer not to give shine to Absolute Championship Akhmat or its developmental series of Young Eagles. We hold our collective noses and direct our praise solely at youngster Magomed Azhuev for pulling off that beauty at ACA YE 58. Raymond Daniels, eat your heart out.

You have seen the highlights, now check out an anti-highlight! At Babilon MMA 54 on Saturday, pro debutant Marcin Szoltysik really did that. He later went on to explain he did so out of protest. What was the result? His opponent got his own purse and Szoltysik’s as well, Szoltysik has been booted from Babilon and the organization suggested he seek professional help. Ouch.

We post this last one here with heavy hearts. Combat sports elder statesmen Wanderlei Silva (49) and Acelino “Popo” Freitas (50)—the latter a multiple-time boxing champ in two divisions—decided it would be in their best interest to engage in an exhibition boxing match despite the man formerly known as “The Axe Murderer” weighing 45 pounds more than his opponent. That was all for naught, as the Pride FC staple who once again calls himself “Mad Dog” was disqualified for multiple fouls including a blatant headbutt. Tensions boiled over, mistakes were made, and our dear Wandy was flatlined the son of “Popo,” Rafael Freitas, sporting a tuxedo. Sometimes these things happen in boxing.
