Tatsuro Taira made the best of a tough situation.
In the main event of UFC on ESPN 71 on Saturday in Las Vegas, the 25-year-old Okinawan had been scheduled to face fellow flyweight contender Amir Albazi, but when Albazi withdrew from the card just two weeks out, undefeated prospect Hyun Sung Park stepped up. Taira dominated Park, knocking him down in the first round, and soundly outgrappling him en route to a face crank submission early in the second.

Karol Rosa righted her ship as well at UFC Vegas 108, grounding Nora Cornolle repeatedly and putting in solid work from top position for most of their three-round women’s bantamweight affair. While the win redeemed Rosa’s January loss to Ailin Perez, the 30-year-old Brazilian remains consistently inconsistent. Having now alternated wins and losses for her last nine fights in a row, Rosa holds onto her No. 10 ranking but continues to struggle to build any kind of momentum.
A day before the UFC’s Apex offering, at PFL 8 on Friday in Atlantic City, Thad Jean capped off a breakout year, capturing the Professional Fighters League 2025 welterweight championship with a one-sided decision win over Logan Storley. The undefeated 26-year-old remains 10th in these rankings, but the sky appears to be the limit.
