KSW President Martin Lewandowski Bringing Olympic-Themed Vision to Reality with Colosseum Event

Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki Founder and President Martin Lewandowski is pretty satisfied with the results of KSW 83.

When he started KSW almost 20 years ago, Lewandowski didn't expect such massive cards at Poland’s National Stadium. Lewandowski smiles after what he considers the biggest promotional event that went down in front of 50,000 roaring fans. Still, Lewandowski dreams even bigger, and by bigger, he means increasing the KSW presence outside of Poland as he plans to have another show outside of familiar territory this year and possibly four more in 2024. What if the Colosseum event were to become an annual tradition? Lewandowski initially planned for a four-year cycle after the first Colosseum event in 2017, but various factors, including COVID-19, forced them to postpone their plans. Now it might be the right moment to revisit the dream.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship title contender Alistair Overeem was present at the event. When asked if there were any news or announcements regarding “The Reem,” Lewandowski revealed that he and the fighter have known each other for years. They actually discussed the possibility of a fight at the Colosseum 2, and a heavyweight championship clash with Phil De Fries was one of the options on the table. However, the bout wasn't possible at this time due to Overeem's back injury and other issues. Still, KSW might still consider it in the future when Overeem is fully healthy.
